The Great Lūlu Boulder

The boulder is real. Swedish gold beneath it remains a local legend.

In the forest near the Lūlu homestead stands the largest boulder in Mazzalve Parish: a pale-grey and pale-pink granite erratic, most likely carried here by a glacier. Much of the stone still lies underground.

Local legend says that Swedish gold is hidden beneath it. Since 2025, reaching the site has become easier: Latvijas Valsts meži has built the more than one-kilometre Laugaļi Meadow Road and created a parking place by the turn-off to the boulder.
