Mazzalves Residents Learn First Aid in the “Safe Communities” Programme

The Ērberģietes association has joined the “Safe Communities” neighbourhood community-development programme. In the programme’s first intake, 225 applicants from all over Latvia applied, while only 60 neighbourhood communities — 12 in each region — could be admitted. Mazzalves community successfully passed selection among the communities in the Zemgale region and is ready for further growth in the programme.

With programme funding, the community has prepared and analysed a self-assessment together with a mentor. An action plan for building a safe community was also developed with the mentor and has already begun to be implemented.

Thirty Mazzalves residents have started first-aid courses. On 21 July, the first group of 15 people spent a full day learning theory and practical skills: how to act at an accident scene, call emergency services, perform resuscitation, stop bleeding, respond to thermal injuries, chemical incidents and electric shock, recognise different illnesses and assist people affected by them. Participants found the course highly valuable and said the knowledge and skills would be useful in life.

Residents are invited to be responsive and take part in the programme!
